SKOPJE (Macedonia), December 28 (SeeNews) – Serbia’s Kon Tiki Travel said it has set up a travel agency in Macedonia, Kon Tiki Sky dooel, as part of its $10 million (6.9 million euro) plan for investment in the tourism sector of the neighbouring country.
Kon Tiki Travel, Kon Tiki Sky and MAT Airways are now one family, Slobodan Micic, co-owner of the Serbian company, said at the Kon Tiki Sky opening ceremony held in Skopje last week.
Earlier this month, Kon Tiki Travel said it has set up an airline in Macedonia that will fly under the brand name of grounded Macedonian flag carrier MAT. Skopje-based MAT Airways DOO owns one aircraft and would soon offer charter flights from Macedonia to top tourism destinations.
MAT (Macedonian Air Transport) was set up in 1994 with a 100% privately-owned capital soon after the country proclaimed its independence from the former Yugoslav Federation. MAT was grounded earlier this year after failing to repay more than 20 million euro in debt.
Leading Serbian travel agency Kon Tiki Travel was set up in 1990. It offers tourist arrangements to over 130 destinations around the world.
