December 1 (SeeNews) - Serbian state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) launched on Tuesday a 210 million euro ($252 million) project for a new flue gas desulphurisation unit at its thermal power plant (TPP) Nikola Tesla B, the government said.
Of the total amount, 120 million euro will finance works for which Serbian firms will be contracted, the head of EPS, Milorad Grcic, was quoted as saying in a statement posted on the government's website.
The project will be implemented by Japan's Mitsubishi Power.
Mitsubishi has already completed a similar flue gas desulphurisation project at TPP Nikola Tesla A.
According to Grcic, the desulphurisation project will help cut the level of air pollution in Serbia to 4,500 tonnes from 80,000 tonnes.
Nikola Tesla A and Nikola Tesla B are part of EPS-controlled Termoelektrane Nikola Tesla (TENT) power generation complex, which also includes the TPP Morava and TPP Kolubara power plants.
