August 16 (SeeNews) - Serbia hopes to complete by October 2022 the construction of a motorway section linking the capital Belgrade to its Surcin suburb, infrastructure minister Tomislav Momirovic said.
"I am convinced that by October 2022 we will be able to complete the section of the road from Belgrade to Surcin, and in the next two to three years the number of motorways and expressways in Serbia will double," Momirovic said on Sunday, as quoted in a statement by the infrastructure ministry.
Serbia launched the construction of the motorway section, an investment project worth 70.5 million euro ($83.1 million), in April. The 7.9 kmmotorway section will be built by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).
The government plans to borrow $60 million from Chinese banks for the construction of the motorway section, the 2021 state budget shows.
