- The town of Smederevo, in central Serbia, on Wednesday decided to grant Dutch-based Comico Overseas a 99-year concession for the construction of an oil refinery on 113 hectares of land. Town mayor Predrag Umicevic said he expects the concession contract to be signed by October. Comico Overseas said in January it planned to build a $250 million oil refinery in Smederevo.
- Serbian hydraulic and pneumatic equipment manufacturer Prva Petoletka will be split into several independent companies in a bid to make the company more efficient, Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic said. The Balkan country made several unsuccessful attempts to sell the company so far.

- The government in Belgrade failed to present to the International Monetary Fund sufficient evidence it will be able to contain the 2010 budget deficit at 3.5% of the projected gross domestic product, which is why Serbia was not allowed to draw the second tranche of its stand-by loan from the IMF, economists say. The Balkan country signed the two-year, 3.0 billion euro funding arrangement with the IMF in March.
