January 18 (SeeNews) - The government of Bosnia's Sarajevo Canton said it signed a 14 million euro ($17 million) agreement for the purchase of 25 low-floor trolleybuses from Belarusian manufacturer BKM Holding.
The first vehicles should be delivered in December 2021 or January 2022, the cantonal government said in a press release on Friday.
The delivery of the entire batch of trolleybuses is expected to be completed by July 2022.
"After that, we will purchase a further 10 trolleybuses in order to have a fleet of 35 vehicles," Sarajevo Canton transport minister, Adnan Steta, said.
The purchase is financed through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). In February last year, the EBRD said it is providing two loans worth 35 million euro in total for public transport investments in Sarajevo that will help reduce air pollution in the city.
Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia, is the third Bosnian city to become a member of EBRD Green Cities, after Banja Luka and Zenica. The programme also includes investments in Sarajevo's water supply network.
