April 20 (SeeNews) - Russian railway infrastructure engineering company RZD International has completed the construction of the Cortanovci railway tunnel and viaduct in Serbia, it said on Tuesday.
The project, which includes the largest viaduct in Serbia and the country's first ballastless tunnel, was completed six months ahead of schedule, and will become part of the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad high-speed section of the Belgrade-Budapest line, RZD International said in a statement.
Before putting the facilities into operation, scheduled for the end of 2021, works on the arrangement of the catenary system, track laying, as well as pre-launch tests will be carried out this autumn, RZD International said.
Serbia's government agreed in November 2017 a 247.9 million euro ($299.2 million) financing for the project for reconstruction of Stara Pazova-Novi Sad railway section of the Belgrade-Budapest line on Serbian territory with RZD International.
The viaduct's length is 3 km, and the height of individual pillars is 26 metres. The viaduct is located at the exit from the Cortanovci tunnel in front of the town of Sremski Karlovci in the floodplain of the Danube River. The Cortanovci tunnel consists of two parallel bores with a total length of 2.2 km.
