November 7 (SeeNews) - Rusatom Service, part of Russian state-owned nuclear group Rosatom, said on Monday it had delivered a new stator for the turbine generator of the 1,000 MW Unit 5 of Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Kozloduy.
The new equipment aims to increase to 104% the thermal capacity of the reactor, Rusatom Service said in a press release.
"The modernised stator can ensure the operation of the turbine generator type TVV-1000-4UZ at a nominal power of up to 1,100 MW," Rusatom Service added.
In October, Kozloduy shut down its 1,000 MW Unit 6 for maintenance which included modernization of the separators of the unit's steam generators aiming to increase the thermal capacity of Unit 6 to 104%.
Kozloduy NPP remained with two operational units - Units 5 and 6 - of 1,000 MW each after the country closed down four units of 440 MW each to address nuclear safety concerns of the European Union prior to its accession to the bloc. Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007.
