February 24 (SeeNews) - Romania's Rompetrol Rafinare [BSE:RRC], a member company of the KMG International Group, said on Monday it has invested $4.6 million (4.26 million euro) in a system for recovering liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at Petromidia refinery.
The project ensures an improvement of the production flow and a substantial reduction of the sulfur dioxide emissions, Rompetrol Rafinare said in a press release.
"It is a unique project at the level of Romania and is part of the Group's strategy of continuous modernization of the operational processes at the level of the production units - the Petromidia Navodari and Vega Ploiesti refineries. The implementation of modern solutions directly and indirectly supports the strategic directions for increasing the degree of protection of the environment and the continuous reduction of the impact on the local communities," Rompetrol Rafinare general manager Felix Crudu Tesloveanu said.
The facility is designed to remove organic sulfur compounds and hydrocarbons from coking gases before they are sent to desulfurization plants and then into the refinery's fuel gas system.
Currently, Rompetrol Rafinare operates Petromidia Navodari – the largest refinery in Romania, and Vega Ploiesti – the oldest working refinery. Vega is the only Romanian producer of bitumen and hexane and its petrochemical division is the sole producer of polymers.
Rompetrol Rafinare is majority owned by KMG International with 48.11% and the Romanian energy ministry with 44.69%.
Rompetrol Rafinare shares traded 2.08% higher at 0.0490 lei ($0.01/0.01 euro) as at 0900 CET on Monday on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
