February 3 (SeeNews) - Romania's retail sales rose by 13.5% in 2016, the statistics office, INS, said on Friday.
Retail sales in 2016 were mainly driven by 13.7% annual growth in food sales, INS said in a statement. Fuel sales increased 10.2% and non-food item sales expanded 15.2% last year, the data showed.
In December alone, retail sales increased by 7.2% on the year, INS said in a statement. Based on seasonally and working-day adjusted data, retail sales climbed 8.4% on the year in December.
Based on seasonally and working-day adjusted data, retail sales decreased by 0.1% on the month in December.
The figures do not include trade with motor vehicles and motorcycles.
