December 21 (SeeNews) - Romania’s Prime Minister-designate Emil Boc has nominated incumbent Economy Minister Adriean Videanu to the same post and independent Sebastian Vladescu as Finance Minister, to replace Gheorghe Pogea.
Vladescu was Romania’s Finance Minister between 2005 and 2007.
Vasile Blaga from the Democratic Liberal Party, PD-L, and independent Teodor Baconschi will head the ministries of interior and foreign affairs, respectively, Boc told reporters on Sunday.
Boc’s, PD-L holds seven out of 17 ministerial posts in the proposed cabinet. Hungarian minority party, UDMR, has four nominations, including the party head Marko Bela as deputy Prime Minister. The proposed cabinet has five independent members.
Last week President Traian Basescu nominated interim premier Boc as prime minister-designate and said he will have to move his government through parliament by December 23.
Romania needs to form a new government fast in order to put an end to a two month-old political deadlock and restart key reforms of the economy and the justice system. These conditions are vital for winning back the trust of international lenders, a key condition for the release of the next instalments of a 20-billion euro ($28.8 billion) bailout package led by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Boc’s government has to be approved by at least 236 of the 471 members of parliament.
It seems that Boc, whose government fell in a no-confidence vote in October, has garnered enough support in the legislature to ensure the approval of the proposed cabinet. PD-L and UDMR together control 198 seats, while independent candidiates and members representing ethnic minorities have 20 and 18 seats, respectively. The opposition liberals, PNL, and Social Democrats, PSD, have a total of 234 seats in parliament.
