August 31 (SeeNews) - Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN], the operator of Romania's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, said on Wednesday it has reconnected to the grid one of the plant's two 700 MW units that was shut down for repairs.
Unit 1 was shut down on August 26 in order to carry out repair works of the filtration system of the aspiration pool, in the non-nuclear part of the power plant, Nuclearelectrica said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB.
The controlled shutdown and the completion of the repair works have no impact on personnel, nuclear safety, environment and population, the company noted.
On August 25, Nuclearelectrica announced that Unit 1 has returned to nominal power following reduction needed to modify parameters of the turbine condenser due to accumulation of impurities in the water, such as algae and mud.
The Cernavoda NPP, located in southeastern Romania, has two reactors of 700 megawatts each. Its output cover around a fifth of the country's electricity needs.
Blue-chip Nuclearelectrica's shares traded 0.11% higher at 45 lei ($9.28/ 9.25 euro) as at 1545CET on Wednesday on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
