November 12 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output rose by an annual 3.8% in the first nine months of the year, the statistical office, INS, said on Friday.
Romania's January-September energy production totalled 13.9 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 11.4 million TOE, up 17.1% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 50.18 TWh in January-September, up 7.4% on the year.
During the first nine months of 2021, thermal power plants generated some 16.09 TWh of electricity, up 9.6% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations jumped by an annual 22.6% to 14.1 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell 1.3% on the year to some 8.24 TWh in January-September.
Wind farms generated 4.56 TWh, down by an annual 12.8%, and solar plants produced 1.45 TWh, down 2.1% on the year, in January-September.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 5.6% to 41.4 TWh.
Romania’s electricity exports jumped by an annual 27.6% to 4.3 TWh in January-Septembeer, while imports rose 4.2% on the year to 5.63 TWh.
The country produced 2.34 million TOE of crude oil, down 4.4% on the year, and 2.40 million TOE of coal, up 20.8%, during the first eight months of 2021. Natural gas production rose 1.2% year-on-year, reaching 5.40 million TOE.
Romania's energy production fell 9.8% year-on-year to 17.98 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2020.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
