October 12 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output rose by an annual 4.5% in the first eight months of the year, the statistical office, INS, said on Tuesday.
Romania's January-August energy production totalled 12.41 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 10.1 million TOE, up 17.8% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 22.6 TWh in January-August, up 10.1% on the year.
During the first eight months of 2021, thermal power plants generated some 14.5 TWh of electricity, up 11.2% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations jumped by an annual 25.3% to 13.2 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell 1.4% on the year to some 7.25 TWh in January-August.
Wind farms generated 4.12 TWh, down by an annual 12.1%, and solar plants produced 1.29 TWh, down 1% on the year, in January-August.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 6.2% to 37.1 TWh.
Romania’s electricity exports jumped by an annual 31.4% to 4.3 TWh in January-August, while imports rose 1.3% on the year to 4.88 TWh.
The country produced 2.08 million TOE of crude oil, down 4.7% on the year, and 2.12 million TOE of coal, up 22.9%, during the first eight months of 2021. Natural gas production rose 1.8% year-on-year, reaching 4.83 million TOE.
Romania's energy production fell 9.8% year-on-year to 17.98 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2020.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
