March 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy production fell 6.7% year-on-year to 1.71 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in January, provisional data from the country's statistical office, INS, showed on Wednesday.
Romania's own electricity output plus the country's imports fell 3.7% year-on-year to 6.04 TWh in January, INS said in a statement.
The country’s electricity exports fell by 61.8% year-on-year to 0.23 TWh, while imports doubled to 0.53 TWh.
Thermal power plants generated 2.64 TWh in the first month of 2019, down 10.9% on the year, while hydroelectric power output fell 21.6% to 0.98 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda fell by 0.7% on the year to 1.02 TWh in January.
Electricity generated from wind farms in January 2019 rose 19.2% to 0.8 TWh.
Photovoltaic power stations generated 0.05 TWh in January, down 36.2% on the year.
Final electricity consumption in Romania increased by an annual 3% to 5.07 TWh in January.
Romania produced 285,600 TOE of crude oil in January, up 0.4% on the year, and 280,600 TOE of coal, 8% less than in the same month of last year. The country also produced 737,400 TOE of natural gas, up 0.1% year-on-year.
TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
Romania's energy production fell by an annual 1.6% to 20.96 million TOE in 2018.
