March 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy production fell 1.6% year-on-year to 1.86 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in January, provisional data from the country's statistical office, INS, showed on Tuesday.
Romania's own electricity output plus the country's imports fell 5.3% year-on-year to 6.27 TWh in January, INS said in a statement.
The country’s electricity exports dropped 16.7% year-on-year to 0.62 TWh, while imports grew 55.9% to 0.27 TWh.
Thermal power plants generated 2.97 TWh in the first month of 2018, down 11.4% on the year, while hydroelectric power output rose 3.3% to 1.26 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda increased 1.5% on the year to 1.03 TWh in January.
Electricity generated from wind farms in 2017 fell 15.7% to 0.68 TWh.
Photovoltaic power stations generated 0.07 TWh, up 5.5% in comparison with the year before.
Final electricity consumption in Romania decreased by an annual 2.1% to 4.93 TWh in 2017.
Romania produced 284,600 TOE of crude oil in January, down 3.7% on the year, and 408,300 TOE of coal, 2.7% less than in the same month of last year. The country also produced 737,000 TOE of natural gas, down 0.7% year-on-year.
TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
