November 2 (SeeNews) - Romania's Cernavoda nuclear power plant (NPP) has reduced the power of its Unit 1 on Friday morning in order to perform repair works, Cernavoda operator Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN] said.
The repair works concern a tank of the turbogenerator group, i.e. in the classical part of the power plant, the company said in a statement.
Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 will run at a reduced power of about 500
MW, as the repair works can only be performed with the reactor operates at reduced power.
The controlled power reduction and the repair works will be performed under full safety conditions and in compliance with the specific procedures of the power plant, Nuclearelectrica added.
The Cernavoda power plant, located in southeastern Romania, operates two units of 700 megawatts each, which meet roughly a fifth of the country's electricity needs.
Nuclearelectrica said on October 16 that the plant's Unit 2 was operating at full power again, following repair works that lasted 12 hours.
Shares of Nuclearelectrica traded 0.63% higher at 8 lei ($1.7/ 1.5 euro by 1112 CET on Friday on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
The energy ministry owns a 82.4% stake in Nuclearelectrica.
