February 23 (SeeNews) - The value of deposits made by the non-government sector in Romanian banks grew 8% on the year to 270.5 billion lei ($62.8 billion/59.8 billion euro) in January, decelerating from an annual rise of 8.2% in December, the central bank, BNR, said on Thursday.
Leu deposits increased 9.6% year-on-year to 184.2 billion lei in January, after growing 10% in the previous month, BNR said in a monthly monetary statistics report.
Annual growth in foreign currency deposits accelerated from 4.5% in December to 4.7% in January, when they totalled to 86.3 billion lei.
