December 15 (SeeNews) - Romania’s road infrastructure company CNAIR said on Thursday that a consortium led by local builder Spedition UMB signed contracts worth 6.5 billion lei ($1.4 billion/1.32 billion euro) to build three segments on the Focsani-Bacau section of the A7 motorway.
The works covering the 95.9 km-long motorway segments are to be completed within 30 months, CNAIR said in a press release.
A financing contract worth 9.1 billion lei for the construction of the Focsani-Bacau motorway section secured Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, PNRR, was also signed on Thursday.
The project also includes the construction of 91 bridges and overpasses totalling 12.2 km.
In addition to Spedition UMB, the consortium includes local companies SA&PE Construct and Tehnostrade.
Focsani-Bacau is one of the four sections of the A7 motorway, which is to connect Ploiesti in southern Romania and Pascani in the eastern part of the country.
The local consortium had won the 6.5 billion lei contract following the completion of a tender in late November, CNAIR announced at the time.
Founded in 1997, Spedition UMB is part of the UMB Group. In 2021, the company posted a net profit of 29.7 million lei, on a 1.33 billion lei turnover. At end-2021, it employed 42.
Tehnostrade, also part of the UMB Group, was established in 2004. In 2021, it booked a net profit of 143 million lei and a turnover of over 1.22 billion lei. The company employs 2,259.
SA&PE Construct was founded in 2013. At the end of 2021, it booked a net profit of 7.8 million lei and a turnover of 1 billion lei. The company employed 14 at the end of last year, data from the finance ministry indicated.
