December 18 (SeeNews) - Bucharest share indices closed the week mostly higher amidst low investor interest, with heavier trading in bonds and a couple of deals in stocks lifting the turnover, brokers said.
The blue-chip BET index of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, added 0.36% to 4,821.27 points. The BET-FI index, which tracks the country’s five regional investment funds, the SIFs, edged up 0.24% to 24,228.34 points.
The composite BET-C index ended 0.69% up at 2,784.86. The ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, shed 0.36% to 9,963.64.
BVB's turnover surged to 81.7 million lei ($28 million/19 million euro) on Friday from 14.1 million lei on Thursday, including 60.4 million lei worth of government securities and two deals in shares of SIF 3 Transilvania and Impact Developer & Contractor worth a combined 9.0 million lei.
The volume of traded shares increased to 33.1 million from 25.3 million in the previous trading session.
“With the exception of the bonds and the two deals in shares, trading was apathetic. Banca Transilvania corrected after the continuous speculation of increased buying of its shares. I think it will stabilize at 2.22 lei and then will go with the market,” one broker told SeeNews.
The Bank of Cyprus Group said on Wednesday it has bought a 9.7% stake in blue-chip lender Banca Transilvania for 58 million euro ($83.4 million). Banca Transilvania slumped 5.91% to 2.23 lei in the day's largest turnover of 2.9 million lei.
SIF 5 Oltenia ednded flat at 1.29 lei on deals worth a total of 1.8 million lei, Friday’s second highest turnover. Austria’s Erste ended 0.88% down at 113 lei in the session’s third largest turnover of 1.15 million lei.
SIF 2 Moldova also closed unchanged at 1.15 lei in deals worth 831,500 lei, while SIF 3 Transilvania gained 0.74% to 0.685 lei in 557,000 lei turnover.
The other blue-chip bank BRD jumped 2.99% to 13.8 lei in 610,000 lei turnover. Blue-chip oil and gas group OMV Petrom climbed 1.97% to 0.259 lei in 448,000 lei turnover.
Blue-chip oil refinery Rompetrol Rafinare surged 5.95% to 0.0605 lei in deals worth 394,000 lei as the capital market regulator CNVM is expected to approve in January the pricing in the buyout bid offer to be launched by Kazakhstan's KazMunayGaz, the broker said.
The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, ticked down 0.02% at 473.97 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, rose 2.51% to 598.38 points.
Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, edged up 0.14% to 2,229.42. Turnover on the RASDAQ rose to 859,000 lei on Friday from 542,000 lei on Thursday.
