BUCHAREST (Romania), September 10 (SeeNews) – Romania's Car Producers and Importers Association, APIA, expects the country's new cars market to halve to 130,000 units this year and to remain at the same level in 2010, local media reported on Thursday.
Sales of new passenger cars in EU member Romania fell by 14% to 270,995 in 2008.

"Our forecast is that 130,000 new cars will be sold this year and I think this level is also reasonable for the next year,” online news agency HotNews (www.hotnews.ro) quoted APIA’s vice president Brent Valmar as saying. He said that the market has reached its lowest point and is starting to stabilize.
Valmar added the sale figures for August are disastrous and a lot of dealers have shut down their offices in the past few months all over the country, as they were neither profiting from their operations, nor losing, HotNews reported.
APIA is expected to release January-August new car sales later this month. Sales through July fell by 52.5% on the year to 82,821 units, with local car producer Dacia leading the market with a 31.5% share.
