September 4 (SeeNews) - The Romanian leu closed a tad weaker against the euro on Friday in calm trading, dealers said.
The leu ended at 4.2470/2500 per euro, compared to 4.2450/2480 per euro on Thursday.
The Romanian currency firmed slightly in the early hours of trading,shadowing a regional upward trend but failed to strengthen beyond 4.24 per euro and eased back later, a forex dealer told SeeNews.
The Romanian central bank, BNR, set its reference exchange rate at 4.2436 per euro on Friday, compared to 4.2442 per euro on Thursday. For the U.S. dollar, the BNR set the reference exchange rate at 2.9741 versus Thursday’s 2.9673.
Turnover on the interbank leu deposit market rose to some 2.375 billion lei on Thursday from 1.647 billion lei on Wednesday. The BNR will issue Friday’s turnover figures on Monday.
Interest rates on overnight leu deposits rose to 9.12%/9.57% on Friday from 8.93%/9.43%.on Thursday.
