April 8 (SeeNews) - The Romanian government will allocate a total 45 million Romanian lei ($9.9 million/9.1 million euro) to partly cover private spending related to the hosting of Ukrainian refugees, prime minister Nicolae Ciuca said on Friday.
Individuals hosting Ukrainian refugees in their own homes will be entitled to 50 lei a day per guest, Ciuca said in a statement. Furthermore, funds will be provided to cover food expenses, he added, without elaborating on the exact amount.
According to local news agency Agerpres, however, the state will provide 20 lei a day per guest for food.
The funding was estimated based on expectations that Romanian individuals will host around 15,000 refugees over a 60-day period, the statement added.
According to the Romanian border police, 650,441 Ukrainian citizens have crossed into Romania, of whom 4,981 on Thursday. According to the interior ministry, around 4,300 Ukrainian citizens have so far sough asylum in Romania since the outbreak of the war.
A reimbursement scheme for commercial entities was proposed in March, with the government allocating 100 lei a day for hotels or other forms of professional hospitality hosting refugees.
