February 28 (SeeNews) - Foreign tourist arrivals to Croatia rose 4.3% to 17.4 million in 2019, while the number of their overnight stays grew 1.2% to 84.1 million, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
At the same time, the number of domestic tourists increased by 9.4% to 2.2 million last year, while their overnight stays rose 9.6% to 7.1 million, the statistical office said in a statement.
Overall, the number of domestic and foreign tourists in Croatia rose 4.8% year-on-year to 19.6 million in 2019, while total overnight stays advanced by 1.8% to 91.2 million.
Tourists from Germany accounted for 23.7% of all overnights spent by international visitors in 2019, followed by tourists from Slovenia (8.9%), Austria (8.4%) and Poland (7%).
Tourism is a key driver for the economy of the Adriatic state of some 4.1 million people, contributing some 20% of Croatia's GDP.
