SKOPJE (North Macedonia), April 16 (SeeNews) – Passenger numbers at North Macedonia’s international airports in Skopje and Ohrid decreased 64% year-on-year to 155,200 in the first three months of 2021, Aeroports de Paris (ADP) said.
ADP owns 46% of Turkey’s TAV Airports, the company operating the airports in Skopje and the lakeside city of Ohrid.
In March alone, North Macedonia’s international airports served 51,104 passengers, down 36% on the year, whereas in the last 12 months through March, passenger traffic slumped 81% to 507,889, ADP said in a statement on Thursday.
Aircraft movement at the airports fell 44% on the year to 2,116 in the January-March period, while in the last 12 months the figure plunged by an annual 66% to 7,371. In March alone, aircraft movement at the airports was down 6.2% on the year to 812.
North Macedonia confirmed its first case of coronavirus on February 26. In mid-March, the government ordered the closure of its two airports to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The two airports reopened in July.
