SKOPJE (North Macedonia), July 16 (SeeNews) – Passenger numbers at North Macedonia’s international airports, in Skopje and Ohrid, decreased by 9% year-on-year in the first half of 2021, to 394,224, Aeroports de Paris (ADP) said.
ADP owns 46% of Turkey’s TAV Airports, the company operating the airports in Skopje and the lakeside city of Ohrid.
In June alone, North Macedonia’s international airports served 114,147 passengers, up by 114,098 passengers compared to June 2020, whereas in the last 12 months through June, passenger traffic slumped by 62% to 744,088, ADP said in a statement on Thursday.
Aircraft movements at the two airports rose 35% on the year to 5,524 in the January-June period, while in the last 12 months the figure plunged by an annual 35% to 10,446. In June alone, aircraft movements at the airports reached 1,462, up by 1,458 compared to the same month last year.
North Macedonia confirmed its first case of coronavirus on February 26 last year. In mid-March 2020, the government ordered the closure of the two airports to slow the spread of the disease. The airports reopened in July.
