September 1 (SeeNews) - North Macedonia’s government is providing 50 million euro ($50.019 million) to state-owned electricity producer ESM to boost its output during the current energy crisis, the finance ministry said on Thursday.
ESM will use the financial support for the supply of essential raw materials, such as coal and fuel oil, as well as for other purposes related to supporting the uninterrupted production of electricity, the ministry said in a statement.
The decision is part of the measures taken to maintain a continuous supply of electricity during a time of global energy crisis, the ministry noted.
In August, the government decided to declare a 30-day state of energy crisis due to a shortage in the supply of heating energy to the city of Skopje and the supply of electricity across the entire country.
The government also said that it will invest an additional 50 million euro to improve municipal water infrastructure. The country has secured the funds through a loan from the European Investment Bank and will disburse them to municipalities as a donation.
