SKOPJE (North Macedonia), June 12 (SeeNews) – The number of foreign tourists who visited North Macedonia in April plunged to 171, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
Domestic tourists in the country numbered 570, while the total number of tourists staying in the country fell to 741 in April, Makstat said in a statement.
The number of overnights spent by tourists in North Macedonia in the review period decreased to 4,690.
Out of the total number of foreign tourists who visited North Macedonia in April, 35% came from Hungary, 13% from Austria and 12.3% from Poland.
North Macedonia confirmed its first case of coronavirus on February 26. In mid-March, the government ordered the closure of the two international airports, in Skopje and in Ohrid, and banned foreigners from entering the country.
The country has confirmed a total of 3,701 coronavirus cases, including 171 deaths, as of June 12, health minister Venko Filipce said in a Twitter post.
