PODGORICA (Montenegro), October 24 (SeeNews) – Montenegro's state-run power utility Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) [MNG:EPCG] said it plans to invest 40 million euro ($47 million) over the next three years in the modernisation of the Pljevlja thermal power plant (TPP).
The project aims to adapt the production of the plant to the environmental directives of the European Union, the power utility said in a statement on Monday.
The company has invested a total of 60 million euro in capital projects at the TPP in the last ten years. As a result, the plant can operate for 100,000 hours without any need for capital investments from now on, EPCG said.
Pljevlja TPP produced 765.5 GWh of electricity in the period between January 1 and October 23, up 14% on the year, the company added.
In 2016, Pljevlja TPP produced 1.216 GWh of electricity, or 95.7% of its target of 1.286 GWh for the year.
EPCG signed in September 2016 a 324.5 million euro deal with Skoda Praha for the construction of a 254 MW unit of Pljevlja power plant after two years of negotiations.
