PODGORICA (Montenegro), April 7 (SeeNews) – Montenegro's infrastructure minister Osman Nurkovic said the government is exploring options for attracting 155 million euro ($159.5 million) financing for the construction of the Verige bridge in the Bay of Kotor.
The project attracts serious interest among international investors, Nurkovic said in a video file posted on the government's website on Thursday.
The government is not able to finance the project from the budget and plans to hire an investor through a tender called by state-run road operator Monteput, Nurkovic said.
The project also includes the construction of a road connecting the bridge to Tivat airport.
In July, the Montenegrin government said it plans to borrow 175 million euro from Azerbaijan for the construction of the bridge by an Azeri company which would be exempt from taxes.
The bridge, which will cross the Verige strait at the Kotor Bay's entrance, is part of the Adriatic Highway, a road that stretches along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea and is part of the European route E65.
