May 11 (SeeNews) - Moldova's consumer prices rose by 5.25% year-on-year in April, compared to a 5.94% increase in the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, said on Monday.
The main inflation driver in April were food prices, which added 9.96% year-on-year, BNS said in a statement.
Prices of non-food products rose by 1.48% on the year in April, while the cost of services increased by 3.51%.
On a monthly comparison basis, Moldova's consumer prices edged up by 0.17% in April. Food prices grew by 1.17%, while non-food prices fell by 0.79%. Consumer prices in the services sector edged up by 0.02% month-on-month.
On March 4, Moldova's central bank cut its key rate to 4.5% from 5.5%, taking into account the domestic disinflationary trend and global economic concerns related to the coronavirus outbreak.
