November 2 (SeeNews) - Moldova’s agricultural output jumped by 27.5% on the year in the first nine months of 2023, mainly due to a significant increase in crop production, the country's statistical office said, citing preliminary data.
Crop production rose by an annual 46.1%, while livestock production dropped by 4.2% in the nine months through September, the statistical office said in a press release on Monday.

The production of cereals and grain legumes, excluding maize, jumped by 76% year-on-year to approximately 1,8 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2023. Wheat accounted for some 1.5 million tonnes after increasing by 77% on the year, barley rose by an annual 80% to 238,000 tonnes, while grain legumes saw a 41% jump to 37,000 tonnes.
Live-weight livestock production declined by 4.5% on the year to 130,000 tonnes in January-September, while egg production decreased by 2.3% to 498,000 tonnes. Milk production inched down by 0.1% to 221,400 tonnes.
In the third quarter alone, Moldova's agricultural output rose by 36.1% on the year, accounting for 82.1% of the aggregate production of the first nine months of 2023. Crop production increased by an annual 47.8% in the third quarter, while livestock production saw a 7.8% drop.
In 2022, Moldova’s agricultural output fell by 30% year-on-year in terms of volume, mainly due to a significant decrease in plant production.
