CHISINAU (Moldova), November 17 (SeeNews) – The combined gross profit of Moldovan insurance companies fell by 47% on the year to 62.08 million lei ($5.6 million/3.8 million euro) in the first nine months of 2009, the country's securities commission, CNPF, said on Tuesday.
The combined premium income of the 26 insurance companies operating in Moldova fell to 595.6 million lei through September from 633.1 million lei a year earlier, CNPF said in a statement.
The claims paid by Moldovan insurers rose to 270.9 million lei through September from 189.1 million lei a year earlier.
The combined assets of Moldovan insurers totalled 1.44 billion lei at the end of September, 12% up on the year.
Moldasig and ASITO were the country's two largest insurers in terms of premium income in the first nine months this year.
