February 14 (SeeNews) - Moldova's consumer price inflation accelerated to 3% year-on-year in January, from 2.4% in December, official figures show.
Compared to the previous month, consumer prices rose by 1.2% in January, following a 0.5% advance in December, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, on Monday.
In January, food prices rose 2.2% on the month and were 3.8% higher on the year.
Prices of non-food products increased by 0.9% on the month and rose 3.9% on the year.
Prices of public utility and transport services were up 0.3% month-on-month and increased by 0.3% on the year.
At its last monetary policy meeting held in January, Moldova's central bank, BNM, decided to keep its key rate at 9.0%, striving to hold inflation rate close to its 5.0% target.
BNM projects 5.2% inflation in 2017 and 4.9% in 2018.
Moldova's consumer prices rose by 6.4% in 2016, after increasing by 9.7% a year earlier.
