October 4 (SeeNews) - UK-based Menzies Aviation has agreed with Air Serbia to provide ground handling services at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, following the Serbian flag carrier's recent challenges in this area.
Air Serbia CEO Jiri Marek said that during this year's summer season, the company recorded unprecedented growth, but at the same time faced certain difficulties in the field of ground handling in Belgrade.
Air Serbia was forced to cancel dozens of flights daily in June due to staff shortages and equipment failure at the airport.
As part of the planned cooperation, Menzies will deliver passenger and ramp services at Belgrade Airport starting February 2024, Air Serbia said in a press release on Tuesday.
“Strategically, as the number one service provider in the world, and the number one provider in the region, this venture represents a major step for Menzies, supporting our ambitions to expand our presence in the Balkans and support emerging aviation markets,” said Philipp Joeinig, CEO of Menzies Aviation.
