SKOPJE (Macedonia), August 6 (SeeNews) – Macedonia's trade deficit increased to 56.6 billion denars ($1.1 billion/915 million euro) in the first half of 2018 from 53.7 billion denars in the same period of 2017, the country's statistical office, Makstat, said on Monday.
Exports rose 13.4% year-on-year to 169.1 billion denars in the January-June period, while imports grew 10.8% to 225.7 billion denars, Makstat said in a statement.
The imports-to-exports ratio was 74.9% in the six-month period.
Macedonian exports mainly consisted of supported catalysts with precious metal or precious metal compounds as the active substance, ignition wiring sets, aircraft or ships and other wiring sets used in motor vehicles.
The country predominantly imported platinum and platinum alloys, petroleum oils and flat-rolled iron or non-alloy steel products.
Macedonia's main trading partners in the January-June period were Germany, Britain, Greece, Serbia and Bulgaria.
