November 21 (SeeNews) - October new car sales in Macedonia rose by 16.4% from a month earlier to 1,344 vehicles, data indicated on Wednesday.
Volkswagen was the top-selling brand with a 16.4% market share thanks to the sales of its Golf and Passat models, under data provided by car importers in Macedonia and compiled by local magazine Auto Plus. Peugeot came second with a market share of 10% thanks to the sales of its 207 model.
In September last year, 928 new cars were sold in Macedonia.

The average age of vehicles in Macedonia is 18 years despite the government's efforts to prevent the ex-Yugoslav country from becoming Europe's car scrap yard. In early 2005 the government banned imports of vehicles older than six years and cut import duties on new vehicles to 8.0% from 10% . It has also scraped a 7.5% excise duty levied on new cars
