December 6 (SeeNews) - Macedonia is targeting a 25% share of renewable energy sources (RES) in its electricity production in 2025, the country's ambassador to Ukraine, Stole Zmejkoski, has said.
The target was set in the Renewable Energy Action Plan (REAP) adopted by the Macedonian government, Zmejkoski has said on the sidelines of a meeting with Sergiy Savchuk, head of Ukraine's state energy efficiency agency SAEE, the agency said in a statement earlier this week.
Macedonia is paying serious attention to the development of wind and hydro power capacity and in 2015 as much as 19.9% of its electricity was produced from renewable energy sources, Zmejkoski said.
SAEE also said that Ukraine and Macedonia agreed to cooperate in the field of renewable energy.
In April, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said meeting the REAP objectives could require rehabilitation or modification of existing schemes, equipment of existing hydraulic structures with turbines, new hydropower schemes with or without regulation capacity, or new pumped storage schemes.
