- Finding of a mutually accepted solution on the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece, in a process held under the United Nations auspice, is essential for both countries, the Prime Ministers of Macedonia and Greece, Nikola Gruevski and George Papandreou, agreed at their first meeting held on Thursday on the sidelines of EU Council meeting in Brussels. Macedonia is involved in a 18-year-old name dispute with its southern neighbour, which objects to the use of the name Republic of Macedonia, saying it implies territorial claims to the northernmost Greek province of the same name.
