December 6 (SeeNews) - The Romanian unit of German hard discounter Lidl said on Tuesday it will open a new store, its 203rd in the country, on December 8.
The new store, in the northwestern city of Cluj, will spread on an area of 1,200 sq m and will employ 20 people, the company said in a press release.
Lidl added it will continue to promote collaboration with local producers, as many quality brands sold in its network are produced in Romania.
In November, Lidl opened a new logistics center in Lugoj, Timis county, in western Romania, following a 20 million euro ($21.2 million) investment. The new logistics centre has a total built-up area of over 45,000 sq m, a land surface of 160,000 sq m and employs some 200 people. In Romania, the retailer has logistics centres also in the cities of Ploiesti, Chiajna and Iernut.
Also in November, Lidl opened its first "green" supermarket, located in Bucharest, taking the total number of its units in the Romanian capital city to 25. The store has 1,400 sq m and features modern green technologies aligned to the highest sustainability and energy efficiency standards.
Lidl is part of Germany's Schwarz Gruppe which also operates the Kaufland retail chain.
Lidl has been present in Romania since 2005.
