May 26 (SeeNews) - German hard discounter Lidl broke ground for the construction of its first supermarket in Serbia's capital Belgrade which it plans to complete by November 1, the municipal government said.
Lidl is set to build two more large stores in Belgrade as it moves towards its goal to open three to five facilities in Serbia's capital next year, the municipal government said in a statement on Wednesday.
Earlier this year, Lidl said it completed the construction of its first Serbian supermarket in the central town of Smederevo. The store will serve as a test location for the company as it expands across the country, it said earlier.
Lidl is part of Germany's Schwarz Gruppe which also operates the Kaufland retail chain.
