February 28 (SeeNews) - Japan said it will provide a $100 million (94.7 million euro) loan to Moldova to support the country's budget in the context of the ongoing war in neighbouring Ukraine.
Japan's prime minister, Fumio Kishida, stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine's neighboring countries during a G7 summit teleconference held on Friday, Japan's foreign ministry said in a press release.
Moldovan president Maia Sandu said that she was informed of the planned support by Japan's ambassador to Moldova, Yamada Yoichiro, and commended the decision.
"I thanked the ambassador for the excellent bilateral cooperation as well as for the continuous assistance and expressed my hope that we will also manage to increase the volume of Japanese investments in the Republic of Moldova," Sandu said in a post on Facebook.
Also on Friday, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) said that it plans to work with the U.S. Congress to provide to Moldova $300 million in non-reimbursable funds to improve its energy resilience in the context of the Russian war on Ukraine.
