BELGRADE (Serbia), December 27 (SeeNews) – Swedish home furnishing retailer IKEA plans to open 400 jobs in Belgrade through the launch of a retail park in Serbia’s capital in 2020, the Serbian government said.
IKEA has signed a cooperation agreement on the project with Serbia’s infrastructure ministry and plans to invest 50 million euro ($56.9 million) in the construction of the retail park, the government said in a statement earlier this week.
The project will increase the total investment of IKEA in Serbia to 120 million euro, the regional property and expansion manager of the Swedish company for South East Europe, Vladislav Lalic, said.
IKEA opened its first store in Serbia in August 2017. The company invested 70 million euro in the project and acquired 31 hectares of land adjacent to the store for the construction of the retail park.
The store of IKEA in Belgrade spreads on an area of 33,000 sq m and offers some 9,500 products. It also has a restaurant with 500 seats, a bistro, a shop for Swedish food, playgrounds for children and a parking lot for 1,400 vehicles.
