BUCHAREST (Romania), September 9 (SeeNews) – German utility group E.ON will lay off some 1,900 of its employees in Romania until 2012 in a bid to cut costs, Romanian media reported on Wednesday.
“Now we have 8,400 employees in Romania but until 2012 the number will be reduced to 6,500,” Bucharest-based daily Ziarul Financiar (www.zf.ro) quoted E.ON Romania’s general director, Frank Hajdinjak, as saying. Hajdinjak also said the company has laid off some 1,000 since the beginning of the year.
E.ON entered Romanian market in 2005 by acquiring power distributor Electrica Moldova and gas distributor Distrigaz Nord. The two companies employed more than 12,000 at that time.
