September 29 (SeeNews) - A total of 2,886,785 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the eight months through August, up from only 1,187,442 in the like period of last year, the state statistical office said, citing provisional data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists more than doubled to 7,526,54 in the January-August period of 2022 from 3,161,672 in the first eight months of 2021, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 23.5% to 1,450,671, taking the total number of tourists to 4,337,456, up 83.6% compared to January-August 2021.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 4,195,445 in the first eight months of 2022, up 10.6% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period jumped to 11,721,986 from 6,955,796.
In August alone, 856,914 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 46.5% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists rose 52.2% to 2,336,939.
In August, most overnight stays were made by foreign tourists from Germany and the Netherlands, accounting for 22.3% and 10.9% of the total, respectively, followed by Italy with 10.7%.
