June 27 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign tourists who visited Bulgaria in May increased 0.9% on the year to 946,700, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Thursday.
Citizens of EU member states made up 62.7% of all arrivals of international visitors in May, down by 0.7% compared to their number in the same month of last year, NSI said in a monthly report on tourist numbers.
Vacation trips made up 38.4% of all foreign tourist visits in May, while business trips accounted for 19.7%.
The number of people who visited friends or relatives in Bulgaria or just transited the country represented 41.9% of all arrivals of foreign nationals in May.
In May, most foreign visitors to Bulgaria came from Romania, Greece and Turkey. Visits by tourists from Ukraine increased the most, by 29.8%.
