May 29 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign tourists visiting Bulgaria decreased by 88.9% year-on-year in April to 81,200, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Friday.
Citizens of EU member states made up 34.5% of all arrivals of international visitors in April, or 93.1% less than the number recorded in the same period of last year, NSI said in a monthly report.
According to NSI, people who visited friends or relatives in Bulgaria or just transited the country made up 70.6% of all foreign nationals who entered the country in April, while business trips accounted for 28.7%.
Vacation trips made up just 0.7% of all foreign tourist arrivals to Bulgaria during the month of April.
As of May 14, Bulgaria is in a one-month state of epidemic emergency which replaced the state of emergency imposed by the government for the period from March 13 until May 13 over the coronavirus pandemic.
