September 29 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign tourists who visited Bulgaria in August increased to over 1.5 million from 747,100 in the same month of last year, official statistics showed on Wednesday.
Citizens of EU member states made up 58.6% of all arrivals of international visitors in August, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report on tourist numbers.
Arrivals from Turkey formed 48.2% of all visits of tourists from European countries outside of the EU.
The number of people who visited friends or relatives in Bulgaria or just transited the country represented 47.6% of all arrivals of foreign nationals in August. Vacation trips and business trips accounted for 45.1% and 7.3% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively.
