February 24 (SeeNews) - The Romanian unit of Ford Motor Company will suspend production at its plant in Craiova for eight working days starting February 26 due to a worldwide shortage of semiconductors, local media reported on Wednesday.
Ford Romania hopes to resume production on March 10, national news agency Agerpres quoted company spokesperson Ana Maria Timis as saying.

"During the eight days in which the production will be suspended, employees of Ford Craiova factory will be paid according to the agreements concluded between the company and unions, taking into account current legislation. Globally, Ford is closely monitoring the situation and adapting its production plans to minimize the effect on employees, suppliers, customers and dealers across Europe," Timis said.
The auto manufacturer currently has about 6,300 employees in Romania.
At the beginning of the month, labour minister Raluca Turcan announced that Romanian carmaker Dacia, a unit of France's Groupe Renault, has suspended production for three says for the same reason.
Ever since late last year, carmakers' operations have been affected by a shortage of semiconductors, as global manufacturers mainly supply producers of smartphones, tablets and gaming devices, according to international media reports.
