September 7 (SeeNews) - France-based Europlasma Industries said it has successfully commissioned a plasma
system as well as a melting furnace dedicated to treatment of low-level radioactive waste (LLW), installed in Bulgaria's Kozloduy nuclear power plant.
"This solution therefore allows to significantly increase existing storage capacities whilst improving their safety," the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The use of this French technology for treatment of radioactive waste is a world first. The proven plasma solution enables the deployment of a new industrial cluster dedicated to radioactive waste treatment, to meet in particular the many challenges arising from the future dismantling of nuclear power plants," Jean-Eric Petit, CEO of Europlasma Industries, said in the statement.
The complete waste treatment plant is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2018.
Europlasma Industries is the Europlasma Group's business unit responsible for engineering, constructing and marketing plasma torches and their associated processes.
