March 28 (SeeNews) - The Romanian arm of German energy company E.ON said on Thursday it has opened two new charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) at MOL Romania's petrol stations in Suceava and Roman.
With the new units, E.ON and MOL reach a total of seven stations out of a total 19 that they plan to open in Romania by the end of 2020 under the NEXT-E project, E.ON said in a statement.
The two EV charging stations have a maximum power of 93 kW, allowing drivers to charge 80% of their car battery in 40 minutes.
By the end of next year, E.ON aims to implement the project on the Iasi - Gheorghieni - Targu Mures route, which is set to become an 'electric highway'. Another 'electric highway' will link the city of Iasi to capital Bucharest.
The pan-European NEXT-E network will include six countries, with 40 EV charging stations out of a total of 252 to be installed in Romania on the following routes: Suceava-Bacau-Calarasi, Constanta-Bucharest-Timisoara and Iasi-Targu Mures - Alba Iulia.
Out of the 40 stations, 19 will be installed by E.ON Romania and the remainder by MOL Romania.
